Hamish was admitted as a barrister and solicitor in New Zealand in 2012 and is a Special Counsel within Shine Lawyers New Zealand. Prior to joining Shine Lawyers in August 2022, Hamish was admitted as a solicitor in New South Wales, working in Australia (Melbourne and Sydney) for seven years and before that in Christchurch. He studied at the University of Canterbury, completing his final semester abroad at the University of Copenhagen. He is now part of our Auckland team.
Hamish has acquired a wide range of civil litigation experience, particularly in insurance, contractual and property damage disputes. He has acted for large multinational companies as well as smaller businesses and homeowners. An intimate knowledge of insurers helps him to negotiate great results for his clients. He has advocated for his clients in a number of different jurisdictions across New Zealand and Australia.
