Stephen Roche is a Director of Shine Lawyers NZ Limited and a co-founder and former Managing Director and CEO of Shine Lawyers Australia.
Starting as an articled clerk in 1981 with Shine Lawyers Australia’s single-office practice in Toowoomba, Stephen played a key role in its expansion. He was among the first solicitors in Queensland to receive Specialist Accreditation in personal injury law.
A strategic and progressive leader, Stephen has been instrumental in major class actions and litigation against powerful institutions. He has actively engaged with governments and key stakeholders to advocate for civil and common law rights.
Stephen is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management, a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and a past member of The Executive Connection.
Stephen has authored two books:
- Don’t Tell is about the case that preceded Australia’s Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. It was made into a 2017 film, of the same name
- The Right Side of Wrong is a candid account of Shine’s journey of growth, its people and landmark cases
Stephen holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Master of Laws from Queensland University of Technology.
